CranioSacral Therapy

What is CranioSacral Therapy?

CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is based on Cranial Osteopathy and works with the craniosacral system that accommodates and circulates cerebrospinal fluid that bathes the brain and the spinal cord. This generates a very subtle rhythm and by listening to and working with the body as a whole, whilst using a light touch and a series of specific gentle hands-on techniques, we can help the body to identify internal restrictions that need releasing.

What and why CranioSacral Therapy

What is SomatoEmotional Release™ (SER)?

SomatoEmotional Release™ (SER) is a therapeutic integration of the body and mind. It’s a spontaneous process where the client’s inner wisdom brings forward emotions, memories or sensations of recent or past incidents, injuries or trauma. The body has its own ‘inner treatment plan’ and will bring essential aspects for resolution and healing as needed and the therapist will facilitate and honour that plan in a gentle, non-directive yet supportive way. Whilst SomatoEmotional Release™ may be an uncomfortable process or experience, physically and emotionally, it ultimately frees the body from pain and restrictions and brings the client greater emotional freedom and comfort too.

“Body, Mind and Spirit is self-healing.”

Why CranioSacral Therapy?

CranioSacral Therapy techniques support and balance the whole body to facilitate natural self-healing, as the craniosacral system has inherent self-correcting abilities.

Physical and emotional restrictions can be released using these techniques allowing the body to naturally rebalance itself.

CranioSacral Therapy is used in different ways by different people; some use CranioSacral Therapy for relief of a physical complaint. This could be as a result of a recent injury or even something that has been causing a problem for a longer period of time. Physical injuries, however old they are, may result in you compensating for the pain experienced elsewhere in the body. CranioSacral Therapy can help to gently realign the body, relieving restrictions and pain.

Others use CranioSacral Therapy as a means of regular and ongoing self-care and maintenance in order to manage emotional related issues, for example, stress related problems.

A CranioSacral Therapy Session.

The Therapy Barn

CranioSacral Therapy is carried out in a warm, calm and peaceful setting where the recipient (and Therapist!) is fully clothed at all times.

The therapist begins with a series of evaluation techniques to establish your CranioSacral rhythm and ‘listens’ to where your body may need help to release internal restrictions.

Then, continuing using a light touch, the therapist uses a series of specific gentle hands-on techniques that focus around the head, working on the individual cranial bones and along the vertebral column, listening to and working with the body as a whole.

There are other techniques that the therapist can use, for example, working with the fascia, which is tissue that runs throughout the body internally and hard palate release techniques, that works with the bones in the mouth.

Treatment sessions usually last 45 minutes to an hour. Your first session will last a little longer as additional time is allocated for an initial medical case history to be taken, in order to establish an overview of your current state of health and to gain an understanding of things that may have happened recently or in the past.

Potential Benefits.

What and why CranioSacral Therapy

Each person will have a different experience to the next, there is no right or wrong way to feel during or after a treatment session. It will be as personal and individual as you are!

Some of the benefits after a treatment session may include:

  • A sense of inner calm
  • Feeling more relaxed
  • Feeling revitalised
  • Feeling energised
  • Feeling more balanced emotionally
  • Feeling clear-headed and able to think and make decisions more clearly
  • Able to sleep better
  • On a physical level, feeling better aligned and pain relief.

Natural Holistic Self-healing.

CranioSacral Therapy techniques enable the body to naturally recognise and identify areas that are not working to their optimum level and perhaps need healing. Following a treatment session, the body will continue to ‘process’ the techniques used during the session, to naturally heal and realign the body.

Regular CranioSacral Therapy sessions may be required to help support the healing process. It is also good to have regular treatments as part of your self-care and maintenance regime.

How many treatment sessions will I need?

Everyone is different and will respond in their own way and in their own time to CranioSacral Therapy. The number of treatments needed will vary from person to person. It is recommended that you receive a number of treatments over a period of time to get the full benefit from the Therapy, and continue to have treatments on a regular basis to maintain the benefits experienced.

About Me

Learn More About Me

Hello I am Emma

Hello I am Emma, a Student CranioSacral Therapist. I have been training with the College of Body Science and the Upledger Institute (UK) since the beginning of 2020. Building my knowledge and experience of this amazing therapy and of the wonders of the human body and its ability to naturally heal itself.

I discovered CranioSacral Therapy in 2016 when I started looking for a natural way to improve my health and receiving regular treatments. I was drawn to the gentle, supportive nature of CranioSacral therapy, and I felt a difference after just a few sessions.

One day I asked my therapist how she found CST and we got on to the conversation of being able to train from scratch. I decided that I also wanted to be able to give people the opportunity to receive this amazing Alternative and Complementary Therapy.

If you’re looking for a natural way to improve your health, I encourage you to try CranioSacral therapy. It’s a gentle, effective therapy that can help you to feel better, both physically and emotionally. I am a Student Member of the CranioSacral Society and insured with Balens Insurance.

My Courses and Training.

As Students we need to complete a number of courses during our Training. There is a core curriculum along with additional subjects that we can choose from to expand our knowledge and therefore patients/ clients that we can offer treatments to. The grid alongside shows the courses that I have completed and forthcoming scheduled courses.

Fertility, Conception, Pregnancy, Birth and Beyond.

Hello I am Emma

Conception starts some time before it actually happens, some 2 months. Things that are happening to Mum and in Mum’s life, can have an affect on fertility and the baby even before conception.

For parents struggling to conceive, there are techniques we can apply to help you to be in the best condition (from a CST perspective) to conceive. It is therefore important that Mum is not only physically fit and healthy but emotionally well too.

CranioSacral Therapy (CST) can help Mum to maintain a calm environment for the baby to develop and grow.

CranioSacral Therapy is suitable for all ages and can be safely used with pregnant women, babies and children.

CranioSacral Therapy can be used alongside traditional methods during labour and have shown improved outcomes with the application of CST. Empowering Mums and the whole family.

Early CranioSacral Therapy in the first few hours and days after birth can help the baby to release restrictions that may have been created during the birth process.

Post birth treatment for Mums can also help Mum to recover more quickly from birth too. Mum and baby can be treated together at the same time. This further improves the bonding and communication between Mum and baby postpartum. CranioSacral Therapy can help with latching on and feeding, reflux and colic as well.

Case Studies

Continued Learning and Development

As part of my ongoing training, continued learning and development, we need to practice and build Case Studies with clients. I have a keen interest in a variety of conditions. If you or anyone you know suffers with any of these conditions and would like to be part of this programme, I would be keen to hear from and work with you or them to help relieve day-to-day symptoms and build a Case Study about how Craniosacral Therapy helped during the period of treatment.

Alzheimer’s and Dementia

Alzheimer’s and Dementia

There are 944,000 people living with Alzheimer's and Dementia in the UK. This is forecast to increase to over 1 million by 2030. Ongoing studies show that regular Craniosacral Therapy treatments can help to alleviate the debilitating symptoms, helping sufferers and their families, friends and care support teams alike.

Menopause

Menopause

Every woman will go through the Menopause at some point in her life. Some are misdiagnosed with depression and are prescribed unnecessary anti-depressants. Craniosacral Therapy can help alleviate some of the symptoms that menopausal women experience on a day-to-day basis and helps to rebalance the system, improving sleep patterns, mood, memory and the ability to concentrate.

ADD/ ADHD

ADD/ ADHD

ADD and ADHD are becoming evermore prevalent across the World. Both children and adults can be affected and more diagnoses are made each day. CranioSacral Therapy can help alleviate the symptoms by calming the Central Nervous System, helping to improve fluid flow and clear toxins in the cerebrospinal fluid and refreshing the CranioSacral system.

Long Covid

Long Covid

Over 2 million people are reported to have Long Covid symptoms in the UK and many more worldwide. More studies are needed to determine how CranioSacral Therapy (CST) could help Long Covid sufferers. I believe that CST can help alleviate some of the debilitating symptoms, for example, fatigue, respiratory problems and difficulty with concentration. If you have been diagnosed with Long Covid and would like to be part of this study, please contact me.

PTSD

Anxiety, Depression & PTSD

It is reported that roughly 1 in 6 people experience a common mental health problem, for example, anxiety and depression; and 1 in 10 people are expected to experience PTSD at some point in their lifetimes, in the UK. CranioSacral Therapy can help alleviate the symptoms by calming the Central Nervous System, working through emotionally related problems in the past and present.
